NOTES ABOUT ALL INSTRUMENTS:
- Instruments from pawn shops and departments stores are generally poor quality and will need to be repaired often. It is highly recommended that you rent or purchase from Carlton’s music. They have been working with middle school and high school students for many years and can recommend the best instrument set up for your child. They are also the only music retail and repair company that makes weekly visits to LHMS to pick up or deliver instruments from the repair shop. Our representative is Mr. Brent Booher.
- Please contact Miss Thompson as soon as possible with questions or concerns about acquiring an instrument.
- Students and parents should NOT attempt instrument repairs on their own. Every instrument is tuned and created in such a way that what seems to be a small knick or bend could throw off the entire sound and playability of the instrument. Bring the problem to Miss Thompson who may or may not be able to repair it. If the repair is beyond Miss Thompson’s capabilities, the instrument must be sent to a professional repairman at Carlton’s music. All school owned instrument repairs must be approved by Miss Thompson.
- It is the responsibility of every band student to clean his or her instrument as needed. Brass instruments need to be rinsed with lukewarm water frequently so that the chemicals in the breath do not eat away the brass. Slides and valves should be oiled frequently to prevent corrosion. Woodwind instruments should be swabbed out after every playing session. Wash mouthpieces with lukewarm water monthly (without getting any cork wet). All instruments should be stored properly in their cases and put into lockers if they are not going home.
